Loss of Mains Protection


GENERATOR TO GRID PROTECTION - THE MEGACON CONCEPT

All size of power plants that are connected to a Main Distribution Network are required to have a Loss of Mains Protection device. Loss of Mains protection units helps to detect faults or loss of supply in the Network and insure safety operation by disconnecting the power plant from the Network when a fault occurs.

The Loss of Mains protection unit can also protect the generators against damage from a non-synchronised reconnection of the grid power after shorts temporally mains failures.

To meet the changing requirements for generators supplying power to the main grid, Megacon have revisited the problem to provide universal solutions in the most straightforward way. The Megacon range consists of protective relays for all applications.

Firmware Updater for KCG59x series
HPD1 provides simple and convenient updating of pre-installed KCG59x Loss of Mains protection equipment to comply with G99 guidelines.

G99 Issue 1 - Amendment 4
As Default, the Vector Shift is deactivated for G99 applications. The KCG59x accommodates the new Distribution Code Review Panel's proposal for Vector Shift immunity up to 50°.

Enhanced ROCOF protection now provides adjustable averaging filter and 500ms delay for full compliance with G99 Issue 1 - Amendment 4 due to come into effect on 27 April 2019.

HHP1 and HHP2 - Hand held Programmer Unit

 
Programming of KCG59x series can be achieved using Megacon’s universal Programmer HHP1 or HHP2.

The ID-protected programmer is powered directly from the unit and is used to program the parameters of any unit within the IS range.
 
When plugged into the unit, the parameters unique to the unit will be displayed.

The HHP2 can also be used via the interface USB port to laptop computers.
 
The HHPx will comfortably fit into a pocket.

Programming of KCG59xx can also be achieved using Megacon's configuration software. The optional HHP2 must be used to interface to laptop computers.

Description

The HPD1 connects to the KCG59x "Comport" interface via a RJ45 lead and is powered from the KCG59x internal low voltage supply rail. The device is "hot pluggable", i.e. the KCG59x does not need to be powered down before connecting. The update code is stored internally within the device and there is no requirement for a PC or laptop when updating.

LED indicators show the status of the equipment and whether the firmware currently installed in the connected KCG59x is older, newer or the same revision as that stored in the programmer.

Installation of the new ENA (Energy Network Association) compliant firmware is accomplished by a single press of the button marked "UPDATE". Optional ROCOF/VS or full LV or HV G99 parameters can be automatically programmed at the same time.

Future firmware updates can be loaded onto the device via a plug-n-play USB connection. Windows software is included to interrogate the programmer and replace the stored code with a later revision which will be downloadable from the Megacon website.


 
Note:
For old Windows XP machines, the software requires .NET Framework 4.0 to be installed.
